Alberta Online Gaming

The Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission (AGLC) has been looking to introduce a state-run online gambling site for some time. The AGLC estimates that Albertans spend between CAD 120 million and CAD 150 million per year on "grey-market sites," so a state-run site would generate tax revenue for the province.

In March 2015, Finance Minister Robin Campbell said Alberta planned to have a new online gambling operation up and running before the end of the year. There is no clear timeline for the government to introduce an online gaming site. Any formal proposal would have to first be approved by the Alberta Treasury Board and the Ministry of Finance.
