Southland Gaming of the Virgin Islands was granted exclusive right to operate and place slots and VLTs throughout the islands in 1998. Currently, people may play VLTs and slots at various entertainment and retail locations throughout St. John and St. Thomas.
In 2010, the governor of St. Thomas signed a racino bill allowing casino gambling at the territory’s racetracks. The Smoke-Free Act was passed at the same time, banning smoking in enclosed areas of public places.
