Nevada authorities approved the Sept. 1 opening of Las Vegas' newest mega-resort, Paris. The 2,914-room Strip property will operate as an extension of the adjacent Bally's. Both are owned by Park Place Entertainment.

Johnson, founder of the Black Entertainment Television (BET) cable company, became the first African-American to own a restaurant in a major Strip hotel-casino. Clark County officials approved his Tres Jazz for opening next month in the Paris hotel-casino. They also approved actor Robert De Niro's restaurant planned for the Hard Rock Hotel.
