Florida Lotteries

The Florida Lottery was authorized by voter approval in 1986 through an amendment to the state constitution. It began operations in January 1988 with the Lottery's first game, MILLIONAIRE, a $1 scratch ticket that exceeded $95 million in sales. Florida Lottery proceeds contribute to the state's public education. The Lottery offers scratch tickets and in-state and multi-state lottery games.

In July 2008, Gov. Charlie Crist entered Florida into the Powerball Multi-State Lottery, joining 29 other U.S. states. On 15 May 2013, Mega Millions was first offered to the public.
