Macanese Sports Betting

Sports betting is legal in Macau and started in 1998. The Macao SLOT Ltd. (Sociedade de Lotarias e Apostas Mutúas de Macao, Lda.), a subsidiary of STDM, is the only company allowed to run sports betting under a license from the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau. In 1998 it was awarded a license to offer betting on soccer (football), which was expanded in 2005 to include basketball.

Bets may be placed at a number of betting centers located throughout Macau, over the phone, or online.

Total revenue from sports betting is less than 1% of Macau’s total gaming revenues.
