Maine Lotteries

In 1973, a bill authorizing a state lottery was introduced and approved by the public. The Maine State Lottery opened for business in 1974 with a weekly draw ticket called "Play Me." The Lottery is operated by the Maine Bureau of Alcoholic Beverages & Lottery Operations, a bureau of the Department of Administrative & Financial Services.

Profits from the Maine State Lottery are deposited to the state's general fund, which contributes to 250 state agencies providing a wide range of services for the citizens of the State of Maine. In October 2010, the Maine State Lottery passed the $1 billion mark in transfers to the state's general fund.

The Maine State Lottery offers instant tickets and draw games and also has multi-state games such as Megabucks, Mega Millions and its flagship game, Powerball.
