Monacan Casino and Card Room Gaming

Prince Charles III created the first casino in Monte Carlo in 1863 in conjunction with its private operating company, the Société des Bains de Mer. The original casino has expanded into a complex of five casino resorts, all of which are still operated exclusively by the Société des Bains de Mer.

BM continues to own and operate the key casino properties in Monte Carlo (including Casino de Monte-Carlo, Casino Café de Paris and Sun Casino), under an exclusive license that gives it a near-total monopoly on casino gaming in the Principality.

In June 2003, the Société des Bains de Mer entered into a strategic alliance with Wynn Resorts for cross-marketing initiatives.

In November 2008, a smoking ban in all public places, including casinos, went into effect. Subsequent tobacco-control reforms have strengthened smoke-free rules and raised the legal age for tobacco to 18, but casino smoking policies still follow Monaco’s general public-health legislation and designated-area rules.
