North Korean Casino and Card Room Gaming
In 2005, after a large amount of money was laundered by high-level Chinese officials in North Korea's Emperor Hotel and Casino, the Chinese government cracked down on gambling activity. The Emperor Hotel and Casino was shut down, and Chinese citizens were forbidden to gamble not only in North Korean casinos but in neighboring countries as well. The ban is ineffectively enforced, and the casino industry of North Korea continues to cater to tourists.
