Sports betting in Turkey began in the 1950s and is overseen by the Ministry of Sports.

In January 2013, the Turkish government announced that it plans to privatize Spor Toto, its only legal sports betting organization. The Turkish government hopes to generate USD 10 billion by privatizing Spor Toto.
