State law authorizes in-person sports wagering at tribal casinos and via mobile platforms available exclusively on tribal reservations.

In early 2020, the House and Senate passed a bill, ESHB 2638, which Gov. Jay Inslee signed off on in March. The bill allowed tribal casinos to offer retail sports betting. Online wagering was also included in the bill, but only on-site at one of these locations.

In June 2021, Washington renegotiated gaming compacts with 15 tribes in the state to include sports betting.

The new deal was signed by Governor Jay Inslee in July and 16 tribes submitted amendments to include sports wagering in their gaming compacts. The Tribes then submitted their compacts to the Department of the Interior, which published nine of the amendments into the Federal Register in September.

In September 2021, the Snoqualmie Tribe opened its retail sportsbook and accepted the state’s first sports bets and by the end of the year more than a dozen tribes were offering sports betting at their casinos. Mobile bets are only accepted when the player is on property.
