Bahamas Casino and Card Room Gaming

The Gaming Board of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas has regulated the gaming industry for more than 30 years. Bahamian residents are not permitted to gamble in the casinos, so the casino industry relies heavily on tourism to support its operations.

The casino at the Baha Mar Resort on Cable Beach was scheduled to open in summer 2015, making it the newest casino in the Bahamas. The development started construction in February 2011. Originally introduced in 2005, the project was supposed to be a partnership between Harrah's Entertainment and Starwood Hotels. Harrah’s pulled out of the deal during the economic downturn in 2008. China State Construction, known for building the famous Water Cube in Beijing for the 2008 Olympics, and the Export-Import Bank of China stepped in and rescued the project. The new developers also failed to deliver as scheduled, and now the Baha Mar project is tied up in litigation.
