Pennsylvania Sports Betting

In October 2017, sports betting was included as part of an omnibus gambling expansion package passed by state legislators, in anticipation of the 2018 Supreme Court decision that struck down the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (PASPA).

Retail sports betting in Pennsylvania first arrived via SugarHouse Casino on the last day of May in 2019. In November 2018, sports betting launched at Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course, and by the end of that month, seven brick-and-mortar sportsbooks were operational in the state – each one with a mobile betting partner.

Online sports betting platforms were unveiled in June 2019 and quickly surpassed the handle at brick-and-mortar sportsbooks. Retail sportsbooks are at every Pennsylvania casino and racino but one satellite casino, and at one off-track betting facility.
