Arizonian Sports Betting

Legislation enacted in April 2021 allows for 20 licenses to be awarded, with 10 licenses available to the state’s Class III gaming tribes and 10 to professional sports franchises and facilities.

Arizona sports betting launched in September 2021 after HB 2772 passed by a vote of 23-6 in April 2021.

The bill allows both retail and online sportsbooks, with 20 licenses split between the professional sports teams/sites and the tribal casinos. Multiple locations can operate under one license if they are a part of the same casino. Daily fantasy sports was also legalized.

In February 2024, a proposed bill that aims to grant Turf Paradise, a race track based in Phoenix, the opportunity to reapply for an online sports betting license was introduced. House Bill 2732 proposes changes to existing language to ensure that Turf Paradise is specifically included as eligible to apply for an online sports betting license in Arizona. Despite being denied initially in 2021, this bill would offer Turf Paradise another chance to pursue an online sports betting license in the state.
