Connecticut Race Wagering

Connecticut allows horse and dog racing; however, there are currently no venues that offer live racing. Offtrack betting is still available.

Offtrack betting and live racing were first introduced in 1976 at the Plainfield Greyhound Park.

In May 2005, Plainfield Greyhound Park closed temporarily so that construction could begin on an auto racing and entertainment center. However, by late August, simulcasting also shut down due to low attendance. The site remains vacant, with no plans to resume dog racing.

Shoreline Star Greyhound Park suspended racing operations midway through the last decade as well. Eventually, Winners – a division of Sportech – purchased the park and converted it into a bar and grill that offers offtrack betting.

Winners operates several other OTBs in the state. Sportech also powers mywinners.com, which accepts bets on horse racing made by residents of Connecticut.
