Arkansas Lotteries
The Arkansas state lottery was approved on the 4 November 2008 ballot and sold its first lottery ticket in September 2009. The Arkansas Lottery Commission oversees lottery proceeds. Lottery net proceeds provide scholarships and grants to Arkansas citizens for state colleges and universities.
In December 2010, the state lottery approved governing ticket vending machines (TVMs) as a measure to help maintain scholarship revenue.
In May 2016, a proposed ballot measure that would bring casinos to the state was rejected by Attorney General Leslie Rutledge. The language was cited as ambiguous.
A ballot initiative authorizing the Arkansas state lottery to oversee the operation of coin-operated electronic gaming devices in convenience locations failed in 2020 after campaigners suspended signature-gathering efforts due to the pandemic.
